One Estate, From Piña to Bottle
"Corazon" means heart — the heart of the agave piña, and the heart the makers put into it. Casa San Matias, a family-owned highlands distillery with more than 130 years of history, controls this tequila end to end: estate Blue Weber agave cooked in stone and brick ovens, milled, fermented in the open air and run twice through stainless steel pot stills, with the house's controlled-oxygenation step before the oak rest that turns it a medium amber. Where the Reposado rests 6 to 8 months, the Anejo takes 16 to 18. Browse the estate's other expressions in our tequila range, compare aged styles in the anejo tequila shelf, or see the house on the Corazon vendor page.
Tasting Notes
Nose: A green, forest-like freshness leads, with spice-box notes integrated behind it (brand tasting sheet). Palate: Light in the mouth, savoury and aromatic — spiced tobacco, charred moss and coffee. Finish: Subtle and focused, the savoury oak character carrying through.
How to Enjoy
Sip it neat at room temperature, where the savoury, tobacco-and-coffee side of long oak rest shows best. It also stands up in a Tequila Old Fashioned, where the spice-box character replaces the usual bourbon sweetness.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is Corazon Single Estate Anejo aged? Sixteen to eighteen months in oak barrels — well past the one-year minimum for an anejo, and more than twice the rest of the Single Estate Reposado.
What does "Single Estate" mean? The agave is cultivated, the tequila distilled and the bottles filled at one estate — Casa San Matias (NOM 1103) in the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco — rather than being sourced and blended across sites.
Is this the same as Expresiones del Corazon? No. Expresiones is a separate limited programme aged in named ex-whiskey barrels and bottled at higher proof. This is the core Single Estate Anejo, aged 16–18 months in oak at 40% ABV.
