Cava Antigua Extra Anejo Tequila is a 750mL extra anejo bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof), made from 100% blue agave at Destiladora Los Magos (NOM 1431) in Tlajomulco de Zuniga, Jalisco, and aged a full 60 months — five years — in selected American white oak and French oak barrels. It arrives in the house's hand-finished blown-glass bottle: hazelnut, dark chocolate and a creme-brulee finish over a thick, creamy body. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Five Years in Two Oaks, a Bottle Built by Hand

Gustavo Romero created Cava Antigua in 1995, drawing on a family tequila history the producer traces across five generations, and presented the brand in the United States in 1997. The extra anejo is its longest-rested expression: five years split across American white oak and French oak at La Querencia, the Los Magos factory in Tlajomulco de Zuniga, in the Guadalajara conurbation. Even the bottle is slow work — blown glass that takes 21 hand steps to make, with leather labels applied by hand and every bottle filled one by one. See the younger expressions on the Cava Antigua vendor page and in our tequila collection.

Tasting Notes

Per the producer's official notes: bright golden amber with a copper shine and a thick, creamy body; balanced aromas of toasted American white and French oak over the essence of agave; an elegant palate of hazelnut and dark chocolate; and a dessert-like, rich finish in the creme brulee register.

How to Enjoy

Neat, given air and time — five years across two oaks is a dessert-course pour, and it stands in for one next to dark chocolate. More extra anejos are in our tequila collection and across our spirits collection.
