In Honour of the Founder, At Full Strength

The 48 is made in honour of Salvador Rosales Briseño, who founded Cascahuin in El Arenal in 1904 — and the honour takes a specific form: nothing taken away. Where a standard blanco is distilled, then proofed down with water and filtered for polish, the Plata comes off the still at or near its bottling proof and goes into the bottle undiluted and unfiltered, in small lots, so the cooked agave arrives with its oils, weight and Valles minerality intact. It is the loudest blanco in the house — the one bartenders reach for when a Margarita has to taste like tequila first. Set it among the high-proof pours in our tequila collection, or compare the trio on the Cascahuin vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Strong cooked agave, pepper and fresh herbs, with cardamom and walnut behind them. Palate: Minty and herbal over bitter-sweet cooked agave, honey and natural fruit — dry, mineral Valles character at full strength. Finish: Sweet, fatty and long.

How to Enjoy

Sip it neat if you like agave at full volume, or give it the cocktails that reward proof: a Margarita or Ranch Water where 48% keeps the agave standing through citrus, ice and soda.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "Plata 48" mean? Plata is the house's name for its blanco, and 48 is the alcohol — 48% ABV, bottled without the dilution that brings a standard blanco down to 40%.

How is it different from Cascahuin Blanco? Same roller-mill, stainless-fermentation blueprint, different bottling: the 48 is distilled at or near proof, never diluted, never filtered, and made in lots of 2,500 litres or fewer — so it pours richer and stronger.

Is it tahona-crushed? No — that is the separate Blanco Tahona bottling. The 48 uses the roller mill; its distinction is proof and bottling treatment, not extraction.
