Probably the Most Influential Lager Ever Brewed

Carlsberg was founded in Copenhagen in 1847 by J.C. Jacobsen — the name joins his son Carl's name with "berg," Danish for the hill the original brewery was built on. Jacobsen's laboratory isolated the first pure lager yeast culture, Saccharomyces carlsbergensis, and shared it freely; brand pack copy presents it as the basis from which almost all modern lagers derive. The beer itself has been exported since 1869, and since 1973 it has carried the most famous shrug in advertising: "Probably the best beer in the world." How to Enjoy
