Forty Years Behind the Flagship
Don Alberto Becherano began making tequila more than forty years ago, first as a hobby, spending over a decade refining a proprietary method; today he produces the range with his son Dan, and every bottling decision goes before the family tasting council. The brand is named for the black volcanic rock — the cantera negra — in the soil of its agave fields. The Extra Anejo is where that patience peaks: three-plus years in barrel, bourbon and cognac casks in the blend, and a Top Shelf 2024 (Tasting Alliance) title as Best Extra Anejo Tequila, with a Double Gold at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition widely attributed to this expression across the range's honours. Tasting Notes
Nose: Cooked agave under dark chocolate, coffee and barrel spice. Palate: Rich and buttery smooth — chocolate and coffee lead, with baked stone fruit, leather, nuts and orange from long ageing. Finish: Long and warm, the cognac-cask fruit and bourbon-cask vanilla resolving over agave.
How to Enjoy
Neat in a stemmed glass, given time to open — the brand itself suggests it with dessert, alongside dark chocolate, where the coffee and cocoa notes lock in.
