The Family Council's Anejo
Nothing at Cantera Negra is bottled on a schedule alone: Don Alberto Becherano, who began making tequila more than forty years ago, still puts bottling decisions before a family tasting council with his son Dan. The Anejo rests a minimum of eighteen months — past the one-year anejo line — drawing cinnamon, toasted oak and vanilla from the barrel while keeping the cooked-agave core and a whisper of the Silver's citrus and earth. Brand-carried results credit it with the Gold Medal in the range's 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition tally. Set it against our wider anejo and tequila shelves, or see the range on the Cantera Negra vendor page.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Cooked agave, cinnamon and toasted oak. Palate: Smooth and woody — vanilla and warm spice over the agave, with subtle citrus and earthy hints carried up from the younger expressions. Finish: Warm and lingering, oak and vanilla fading over sweet agave.
How to Enjoy
Neat or with a single cube — the eighteen months show best unhurried. It also builds a serious Anejo Old Fashioned, where the cognac-cask fruit in the blend earns its keep.
