Cabo Wabo Blanco Tequila is a 40% ABV (80 proof), 750mL unaged blanco from Jalisco, Mexico — 100% Blue Weber agave, cooked in traditional ovens and double pot-distilled, bottled directly from the still. Cabo Wabo's signature is its "thick cut": a wider, more generous cut of the distillate that keeps more of the agave's raw, full-flavoured heart in the bottle. This is the tequila Sammy Hagar built his cantina's name on — bold, spicy and unapologetically agave-first. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Born at a Cantina in Cabo San Lucas

In 1996, rock musician and tequila devotee Sammy Hagar went looking for a house tequila worthy of his Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas — and ended up creating the brand, partnering with a Mexican tequila-making family with more than 80 years of experience. Cabo Wabo helped kick off the modern celebrity-tequila era, but the liquid was always made the traditional way: mature Blue Weber agave, slow oven cooking, natural fermentation and two passes through pot stills. Hagar sold the brand to Gruppo Campari (80% in 2007, the rest by 2010) and is no longer involved, but the blanco recipe — thick cut, unaged, all agave attitude — remains the cantina original. Tasting Notes

Nose: Fresh and floral, with lime and mint over cooked agave. Palate: Full agave flavour with a slightly spicy, peppery character and a smooth, rich texture from the thick cut. Finish: Crisp and clean, leaving you refreshed.

How to Enjoy

The brand's serve is a chilled shot or a premium Margarita; the thick-cut body also makes it a blanco that can be sipped neat or over a big cube without disappearing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "thick cut" mean? During distillation, taking a wider cut of the spirit run — keeping more of the flavour-rich portions most brands trim away. It gives Cabo Wabo its fuller, rawer agave character.

Does Sammy Hagar still own Cabo Wabo? No. He founded it in 1996 and sold it to Gruppo Campari in stages between 2007 and 2010; the brand is now produced under Campari in Arandas, Jalisco.

Is Cabo Wabo 100% agave? Yes — 100% Blue Weber agave, double pot-distilled and bottled unaged as a blanco.
