Bulleit 95 Rye is a 750mL straight rye whiskey bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof), made from Bulleit's signature mash of 95% rye and 5% malted barley. Distilled in Lawrenceburg, Indiana to Bulleit's specifications and bottled by the Bulleit Distilling Co. in Louisville, Kentucky, it launched in 2011 and set the modern template for high-rye American whiskey — russet in colour, spice-led, and exceptionally smooth for its proof. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

The 95% Rye That Reset the Category

Tom Bulleit revived his great-great-grandfather Augustus Bulleit's 1830s whiskey tradition in 1987, building the house on an unusually high rye content. When the Rye arrived in 2011, it pushed that signature to its limit — 95% rye was far beyond the 51% legal minimum, and the whiskey's spice-with-smoothness balance made it a bartender's standard within a few years. It is made to Bulleit's specifications in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, rye country, and bottled under the Bulleit name in Louisville. The bourbon side of the family is on the Bulleit vendor page and in our whisky collection.

Tasting Notes

Bulleit's own tasting sheet: russet in colour, with rich oaky aromas; exceptionally smooth on the palate with vanilla, honey and spice; and a crisp, clean finish with long lingering flavours.

How to Enjoy

The Manhattan rye — its 95% rye spice stands up to sweet vermouth — and a benchmark Sazerac or Old Fashioned rye. Neat, the honey and vanilla soften the spice. More ryes are in our whisky collection.
