James Buchanan built his house from 1884 on blends with a malt heart, but Select is the first Buchanan's to drop the grain whisky entirely: single malts only, each at least fifteen years old, married for balance by Craig Wallace. The extra years and the all-malt build push it toward toffee, deep fruit and a wisp of smoke rather than the lighter Buchanan's house style. Nose: Caramel and walnut with light apple and ripe pear. Palate: Golden-amber richness — toffee sweetness and deep fruit with waves of smoky barbecue heat. Finish: Delightfully drying, with persistent toasted oak.
