Campo Viejo's Pure-Garnacha Rioja
Bodegas Campo Viejo dates to 1959, when the Beristain and Ortigüela Rioja cellars joined forces under a name inspired by an old vineyard — an "old field" — near the original bodega in Aldeanueva de Ebro; production later moved to the modern Juan Alcorta winery in Logroño. Rioja is Tempranillo country, but this bottling — launched under chief winemaker Elena Adell as the winery's first 100% Garnacha — gives the region's other great red grape the floor, sourced from Alfaro and Aldeanueva in Rioja Oriental. See the rest of the house's wines on the Bodegas Campo Viejo vendor page and more Spanish reds in our red wine collection.
Tasting Notes
The producer describes a fruit-led nose of strawberry, raspberry, cherry, and blackberry lifted by violet and lilac, with subtle sweet spice and toast; the palate is soft, silky, and fresh with intense fruit and a lasting finish.
How to Enjoy
Serve at about 16°C (the producer's fact sheet suggests 61–63°F), lightly cool. The producer's own matches: vegetables, beef, lasagna, and pasta — or pour it as an aperitif. More bottles for the table are in our wine collection.
