The Third Belle Meade Special Cask Finish
Belle Meade was the label under which the Nelson brothers — descendants of 19th-century Nashville whiskey maker Charles Nelson — bottled carefully sourced, cask-finished bourbon while their revived Nelson's Green Brier Distillery matured its own stock. After Sherry Cask and Cognac Cask finishes, the Madeira release turned to Malmsey, the honeyed, richest style of Madeira, whose casks season the blend of 6- and 9-year-old bourbons with dark fruit and caramelised sugar. The release was awarded Double Gold at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Explore the brand on the Belle Meade vendor page, or browse our bourbon whiskey collection.
Tasting Notes
Per the brand: a floral nose with vanilla and a hint of toffee; a palate of dark wildflower honey, vanilla, ripe persimmon, dried black cherry, caramelised sugar and baking spices with a soft, velvety mouthfeel; and a lengthy finish echoing the palate with a touch of malt and chocolate.
How to Enjoy
Pour it neat to let the Madeira fruit lead, or add a splash of water to open the honey and persimmon. It also stands up in a Manhattan, where the finish cask does the sweetening. More finished bourbons are in our bourbon whiskey collection.
