ArteNOM 'Seleccion de 1414' Reposado Tequila
ArteNOM 'Seleccion de 1414' Reposado Tequila is a 750mL reposado bottled at 41.2% ABV (82.4 proof), selected by Jake Lustig of ArteNOM from NOM 1414 — Destilería El Ranchito in Arandas, in the Jalisco highlands. The Vivanco family grows 100% estate blue Weber agave in iron-rich Arandas soil, roasts it in a brick oven, ferments it open-air with wild yeast from the estate's agave fields, and double-distils it in copper pots; the reposado then rests four months in third-fill ex-bourbon American white oak barrels, their char scraped to keep the oak influence gentle. It is bottled additive-free. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Highland Agave, Rested With a Light Hand
Arandas grows some of Jalisco's most prized highland agave — red-soil fruit that ripens sweet and herbal at altitude — and the Vivanco family has cultivated it there since the post-revolutionary era, acquiring El Ranchito in 1994. For this ArteNOM selection, the family's reposado gets a deliberately gentle rest: third-fill bourbon barrels with the char scraped away, so four months of oak rounds the roasted agave without masking the chaparral and sweet-potato character of the estate fruit. Tasting Notes
Per the importer's sheet: vegetal chaparral and roasted sweet potato on the nose, with smoked citrus and vanilla; salted vanilla cookie, allspice, mild chile heat and light oak on the palate.
How to Enjoy
Neat or on a large cube as a sipping reposado; its salted-vanilla balance also lifts a Paloma or a reposado Old Fashioned. More highland tequilas are in our spirits collection.
