Ardbeg Wee Beastie 5 Year Old Scotch Whisky
Ardbeg Wee Beastie 5 Year Old Scotch Whisky is a 750mL Islay single malt bottled at 47.4% ABV, matured for five years in ex-bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry butts and bottled non-chill-filtered. Young by design, it is the feistiest expression in the Ardbeg range — the legendary peat smoke of the distillery untamed by age, with a formidable bite that belies its five years. The Beast Is Young on Purpose
Most distilleries hide their youngest whisky inside blends; Ardbeg bottled its five-year-old as a single malt and named it for how it behaves. Launched in April 2020 as a permanent addition to the core Ultimate Range — the youngest age-stated Ardbeg in it — Wee Beastie was drawn from ex-bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry butts and bottled at 47.4% without chill filtration: the raw edge of the Ardbeg house style, peat bog, tar and sea air before time has had a chance to round any of it off. Dr Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg's Director of Whisky Creation, endorsed the cask choice at launch for drinking neat or in cocktails. Tasting Notes
Per the producer's notes: an intense aroma of cracked black pepper mingling with sappy pine resin and a sharp tang of smoke; then an explosive mouthfeel of chocolate, creosote and tar, savoury meats sinking into the palate, and a long, salty, mouth-coating finish.
How to Enjoy
Neat at full strength for the whole bite, or with a few drops of water to pull the pine and pepper forward; it also makes a defiantly smoky Penicillin. More Islay malts are in our whisky collection and across our spirits collection.
