Alma del Jaguar Reposado Tequila
Alma del Jaguar Reposado Tequila is a 40% ABV (80 proof), 750mL reposado tequila from NOM 1414 — the Feliciano Vivanco Distillery in Arandas, Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico, made from 100% Blue Weber agave, bottled unfiltered by hand and additive-free. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.
Reposado is where Alma del Jaguar's highland agave meets a short, deliberate rest: two months in American white oak and one month in French oak — three months in total, long enough for honey and vanilla to settle over the cooked agave without burying it. The base spirit follows the house process: 54-hour brick-oven cook, roller mill, 80% wild / 20% French Champagne yeast fermentation, and double distillation in small copper pot stills at the Vivanco family's Arandas distillery. Sales support wild jaguar conservation in the US and Mexico.
Tasting profile: vanilla, banana, honey, caramel and orange zest on the nose; banana, vanilla, cooked agave, oak and baking spice on the palate; a long, dry finish of vanilla, oak, caramel and cooked agave. Serving note: sip neat or on the rocks, or build a Reposado Old Fashioned that lets the oak and agave share the glass.
