4 Copas Organic Anejo Tequila
4 Copas Organic Anejo Tequila is a 750mL certified-organic tequila bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof), aged 17 months in charred American white oak barrels in Amatitan, in the Jalisco lowlands near the Tequila Volcano. It is made from 100% organic Blue Weber agave grown 5.5 to 7 years in volcanic soils, cooked in brick hornos, roller-milled, open-air fermented and double distilled in copper pot stills — the crowning expression of the brand founded in 1997 as the world's first certified organic tequila. The Organic Pioneer, Seventeen Months in Oak
Hector Galindo Miranda founded 4 Copas in 1997 with scientists, academics and founding master distiller Sebastian Melendrez, whose team spent seven years creating this Anejo — and the brand was certified organic that same year, a world first it still trades on. The agave is hand-tended and hand-harvested with organic fertilisers only, under USDA and EU organic certification and Kosher certification; production today sits at Hacienda de Oro in Amatitan under master distiller Iliana Partida, in volcanic soils rich in silica, potassium, iron and copper. The Anejo took Bronze at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2006. Explore the range on the 4 Copas Tequila vendor page, or browse our tequila collection.
Tasting Notes
Per the brand: deep amber with golden-orange hues and a heavy body; the nose leads with barrel notes — burnt vanilla, tobacco, nuts, coffee and maple — over sweet cooked agave and dried fruit (peach, apricot, cherry) with rose petal; the palate is sweet and soft with the same set and an intense mouthfeel, closing on a sweet aftertaste.
How to Enjoy
Approach it as a Scotch or Cognac drinker would: the brand suggests chilling it to around 20C and letting it oxygenate in the glass for about 20 minutes, then sipping neat. More aged tequilas are in our spirits collection.
