La Rioja's Dry Vermouth, from the House That Started in 1937
Martinez Lacuesta is a family bodega founded in Haro in 1895 by Don Felix Martinez Lacuesta — vermouth came later, in 1937, when the family pioneered it in La Rioja. The Extra Dry is the range's cocktail expression: the botanicals go in cold, the sugar stays down at 28.8 g/l, and what reaches the glass is crisp acidity and artemisia bitterness rather than the sweet Blanco's vanilla roundness. It is the dry end of a range aromatised by the family's guarded Conzia method. Stock it beside its siblings in our liqueurs collection, or browse the house on the Lacuesta vendor page.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Almost clear (producer tech sheet). Nose: Soft florals — chamomile and mint — over a hint of vanilla sweetness. Palate: Crisp and sharp, with licorice, cinnamon, ginger and lemon. Finish: The aromatic expressiveness of artemisia (wormwood), very dry and persistent.
How to Enjoy
The producer serves it cold with a lemon slice and an olive. The importer aims it squarely at the Martini: a 50/50 — equal parts gin or vodka and this vermouth, with bergamot or orange bitters and a lemon twist.
