Tempranillo, Napa's Mountain Way
Jarvis Estate was founded in 1985 by William and Leticia Jarvis on 1,320 Napa Valley acres — and its signature feature is the 45,000-square-foot underground cave where every wine ages. The Tempranillo planting began with a suggestion from founding winemaker Dimitri Tchelistcheff: just one acre, since the variety — its name from the Spanish "temprano," early — is the first red harvested each year. Aged in French oak rather than the traditional Spanish American-oak style, the 2019 is, per the winery, "a classic and concentrated expression": dark ruby, with mixed berry, earth, and spice on the nose, plum and cherry on the palate, supple tannins and a lengthy finish. Tastings.com scored it 91. Explore the Jarvis Winery collection, browse more red wine, and shop the wine cellar at Del Mesa.
Tasting Notes
Dark ruby in color. Aromas of mixed berry, earth, and spice lead to plum and cherry on the palate, with supple tannins, a rounded mouthfeel, cleansing acidity, and a lengthy finish.
How to Enjoy
Decant 30 minutes before serving at cellar temperature. Pair with roast lamb, aged Manchego, or grilled mushrooms — Tempranillo's earthy side loves them.
