Isle of Raasay Single Cask Series Unpeated Ex-Bordeaux Red Wine Cask Scotch Whisky
Isle of Raasay Single Cask Series Unpeated Ex-Bordeaux Red Wine Cask Scotch Whisky isolates one of the six casks in Raasay's Na Sia recipe — unpeated single malt matured in ex-Bordeaux red wine casks from the châteaux of South West France — and it is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.
Around 250 bottles per cask, bottled at natural cask strength, non-chill filtered with natural colour. The Bordeaux casks are delivered fresh to the island; in the first months of maturation the spirit takes on a pink hue that deepens to a darker red as bold flavours build — dried fruits, sultana, grape, Christmas cake and bread pudding. Released in alternate years with the peated version.
Tasting notes (distillery/retailer copy): dried fruits, sultana and grape with a deep red-wine richness on the nose; Christmas cake, bread pudding and dark berry fruit on the palate; a long, elegant finish of red wine tannin and dark spice.
Why buy this single cask? Because French red-wine casks rarely meet Hebridean island spirit — and the result is a whisky as distinctive as its colour. Explore the scotch whisky collection, the Isle of Raasay brand collection, and all whisky.
Serving note: the wine-cask fruit loves air — give it a few minutes in the glass before the first sip.
What is the ABV? Bottled at natural cask strength — typically ~61.9% ABV for the unpeated ex-Bordeaux casks (confirm off the bottle), 700mL.
Where do the casks come from? Fresh ex-Bordeaux red wine casks from the châteaux of South West France, delivered straight to the island.
How many bottles? Around 250 per single cask — strictly limited.
Does the wine cask affect the colour? Yes — the spirit develops a distinctive red hue deepening toward dark red in maturation.
