Isle of Raasay Single Cask Chinkapin Oak Scotch Whisky
Isle of Raasay Single Cask Chinkapin Oak Scotch Whisky is the rarest cut of Raasay's Na Sia series — a single cask matured in freshly charred and toasted Chinkapin oak — and it is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.
Chinkapin (Quercus muehlenbergii) is an American white oak native to central and eastern North America; Raasay's casks are custom-made, freshly charred and high-toasted. That fresh charring brings rich colour and flavour early, while the high toast caramelises the wood's natural sugars — sweet toffee and butterscotch on the nose with vibrant dark fruit at a young age. Around 250 bottles per cask, bottled at natural cask strength, non-chill filtered with natural colour.
Tasting notes (distillery/retailer copy): sweet toffee and butterscotch with caramelised wood sugars on the nose; vibrant dark fruit, deep oak richness and warm spice on the palate; a long, deep finish of toasted oak and dark fruit.
Why buy this single cask? Because Chinkapin oak is almost unheard of in Scotch — a genuine experiment in wood — and each ~250-bottle cask is unrepeatable. Explore the scotch whisky collection, the Isle of Raasay brand collection, and all whisky.
Serving note: the fresh-char intensity rewards patience — a splash of water tames the oak and reveals the fruit.
