Herencia Mexicana Extra Anejo Tequila is an 80-proof (40% ABV), 750mL limited-production extra anejo aged 3 years and 8 months in oak, presented in a wooden box. It comes from Destileria La Fortuna (NOM 1580) at The Positos Ranch near Arandas, Jalisco — a family distillery established in 1865 that supplied agave and distillate to other brands for decades before bottling its own tequila as Herencia Mexicana in 2003. Available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

A 19th-Century Distillery's Own Reserve

"Herencia" means heritage, and this bottle is the point of it: after 140 years as a supplier to other tequila brands, Don Miguel Orozco Navarro's family distillery finally bottled its own spirit in 2003. The recipe never changed — highland Blue Weber agave, a 48-hour brick-oven roast, and double distillation in copper pot stills — but the extra anejo gets what a supplier's barrels never gave it: 3 years and 8 months in oak, drawn down for a limited release that ships in its own wooden box.

Tasting Notes

Nearly four years in oak delivers the deepest expression of the Herencia Mexicana line: rich caramel and toasted oak wrapped around the highland agave core, with the long, polished finish that separates true extra anejos from merely old tequila.

How to Enjoy

Neat in a copita or snifter, at room temperature. This is the end-of-evening bottle — pour it for the table that stayed late, and keep the wooden box for the shelf.
