A Calavera That Pours

The Skelly Collection is Los Azulejos' tribute to the calaveras of Día de los Muertos — each bottle a handmade, hand-painted ceramic skeleton made by Mexican artisans, no two exactly alike, with the tequila in the body and the head lifting off to pour. The Mariachi dresses its skeleton for the fiesta, in a handmade miniature Mariachi hat. The brand's own story runs through its name — azulejos, the traditional painted tiles of Mexico — and its founder Pedro Quintanilla, whose grandfather grew agave and made tequila in Jalisco for family and workers long before anyone bottled it. Behind the ceramics is a serious anejo: 100% Blue Weber, rested about 18 months in oak at Casa Maestri in the Jalisco lowlands. Find it in our tequila collection, or browse the house on the Los Azulejos vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Roasted pineapple, pepper and floral notes with toasted oak and vanilla. Palate: Chocolate, orange and sugar-cookie sweetness with roasted pepper, orange blossom and tropical fruit. Finish: Long and naturally sweet — chocolate, caramel and dulce de leche.

How to Enjoy

Sip it neat — eighteen months of oak earns that — and then keep the bottle: the hand-painted calavera is the decanter and the keepsake in one, and the Mariachi makes it the Day of the Dead shelf's centrepiece every October.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is every Skelly bottle the same? No — each ceramic skeleton is handmade and hand-painted by Mexican artisans, so details vary bottle to bottle, and the Mariachi hat's colour may vary as well.

How do you pour it? The skeleton's head lifts off — the tequila is held in the body of the ceramic bottle and pours from the top.

How long is the anejo aged? About 18 months in oak, per the best-supported sources for this standard Mariachi bottling; sources conflict on the oak type, so the honest spec is the time, not the wood.
