The Black Skull Is an Agave Vodka

Crystal Head was co-founded by actor Dan Aykroyd and artist John Alexander, who designed the skull bottle as a symbol of life, power and enlightenment. Onyx, launched in 2020 as the third core expression, is the house's experiment with Mexico: where the Original is Canadian corn and Aurora is English wheat, Onyx starts from Blue Weber agave — yet it is a true vodka, not a tequila, drinking clean with an unmistakable earthy agave grip underneath. The black finish is named for the onyx crystal, presented by the brand as a warrior's stone of intuition, focus and protection. Tasting Notes

Nose: Fresh green grass, white pepper and citrus hints (official notes). Palate: Soft and smooth, a touch of spice and sweetness developing into an earthy agave grip. Finish: Medium, returning to green grass, pepper and citrus, clean with a semi-sweet edge.

How to Enjoy

On its own, ice-cold, the agave character is the whole point. In a Martini it brings a green, peppery twist no grain vodka can copy, and it gives a Bloody Mary a subtle earthy depth.
