43% ABV (86 proof) | 750mL | Añejo: aged a full year in vintage George Dickel barrels | NOM 1579, Jesús María, JaliscoG4 Añejo de Madera Día de los Muertos 2025 is the first-ever añejo edition of Felipe Camarena's celebrated Day of the Dead release — aged a full year in vintage George Dickel American whiskey barrels and presented in handmade coffin boxes with three badge variations.

"De madera" doesn't mean barrel-aged — it refers to fermentation in new pine wood tanks instead of stainless steel, a traditional touch that imparts a subtle resinous creaminess before the whiskey-barrel year even begins. Made at Destilería El Pandillo by fourth-generation distiller Felipe Camarena — the "Mad Scientist of Distilling" — from estate blue weber agave slow-cooked 22 hours in stone ovens, crushed by the 19,000-pound custom tahona "Felipestein," fermented on harvested rainwater, and double-distilled in copper pot stills. Additive-free, verified by Tequila Matchmaker. Vibrant aromatics of cooked agave and black pepper give way to vanilla, cinnamon, butterscotch, caramel, dark chocolate, warm oak, tobacco, and leather — available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor in San Diego, CA.

Tasting notes

Vibrant aromatics: cooked agave, black pepper, vanilla, cinnamon, butterscotch, whisper of smoke, hint of minerality. Palate: caramel, dark chocolate, warm oak, baking spice, tobacco, leather.

Why buy it from Del Mesa Liquor

  • First-ever añejo edition — the 2024 was a 7-month reposado; this spent a full year in wood
  • "De madera" — fermented in open pine wood vats with agave fibers, a rare traditional method
  • NOM 1579, Felipe Camarena's El Pandillo; additive-free, handmade coffin-box packaging
  • Available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor

How to serve it

Neat in a snifter to appreciate the full year of oak and the pine-tank character. This is a sipping tequila — save the cocktail shaker for something else.

Frequently asked questions

What does "de Madera" mean?
"Of wood" — it refers to fermentation in new pine wood tanks instead of stainless steel, not barrel aging. The añejo aging itself happens in vintage George Dickel whiskey barrels.

How is the 2025 different from the 2024 edition?
The 2024 Día de los Muertos was a 7-month reposado at 42%; the 2025 is a full-year añejo at 43% — a different, more aged expression.

Who makes G4?
Master Distiller Felipe Camarena (fourth-generation distiller, sixth-generation agavero) at his own Destilería El Pandillo (NOM 1579) in the highlands of Jalisco.
