Most Crown Royal flows from Gimli, Manitoba — but the whiskies inside the Extra Rare 30 Year Old were distilled at LaSalle on the island of Montreal, a distillery that closed its doors in 1993, and left to sleep in used oak casks for three decades. Only spirit as light and clean as Crown Royal's Coffey-still distillate can absorb thirty years of wood without turning bitter, and the result is velvet: ripe pear, maple syrup, and baking spice on the nose; orchard fruit, caramel, and vanilla across a creamy palate; oak and cinnamon on an exceptionally long finish.
