Compass Box Extinct Blends Quartet Celestial Blended Scotch Whisky is a 50% ABV (100 proof), 750mL limited-edition Blended Scotch Whisky — the fourth and final release in Compass Box's Extinct Blends Quartet, bottled in November 2023 and released in April 2024 in 5,532 bottles worldwide, natural colour and not chill-filtered, led by whiskymaker James Saxon. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Celestial reimagines an undisclosed blended Scotch of the 1950s and 1960s from one of the original "Whisky Barons," closing a quartet that ran Ultramarine (2022), Delos (2023) and Metropolis (2023). It is the peatiest of the four: at its core are Ardbeg and Caol Ila malts — two parcels first brought together six years earlier for the original No Name — with reported components also including Old Pulteney and Glen Elgin malts and Port Dundas and Cameronbridge grains in recharred, first-fill, sherry and French oak. Compass Box does not name the blend it honours, and neither does this listing.

Tasting profile (distillery notes): heavyweight peat that opens as beach bonfire and builds to a coastal smokehouse, with gingery richness, vanilla and grilled apples behind it; a dry, oak-forward palate of meaty smokiness flowing into cooked tropical fruit. Browse the Compass Box brand collection, more Scotch whisky, and the full whiskey collection at Del Mesa Liquor.

Serving note: the house calls it "perfectly paired with expansive conversations with friends" — pour it neat and give it time in the glass.

What is the Extinct Blends Quartet? Four Compass Box limited editions reviving lost blended-Scotch styles: Ultramarine, Delos, Metropolis and finally Celestial, the peatiest of the set.

Which whiskies are in Celestial? An official Ardbeg and Caol Ila core (parcels first combined for No Name), with reported Old Pulteney, Glen Elgin, Port Dundas and Cameronbridge components; Compass Box discloses no percentages or ages.

Is Celestial a blended malt? No — it is a Blended Scotch Whisky (malt and grain). Secrets of Smoke (product 9) is the blended malt.

What is the ABV and size? 50% ABV (100 proof), 750mL; 5,532 bottles worldwide.
