White Pony, Bottled
In March 2021, Deftones did what rock bands do at their most ambitious: they put their name on a serious aged spirit. Abre Ojos ("open your eyes") built this añejo the traditional way — highland and valley agave, cooked in brick ovens, naturally fermented in open-air tanks, twice distilled — then gave it nearly two years in ex-whiskey American oak. The "Ohms Edition" matte-black bottle, logo-forward and unapologetic, commemorates twenty years of White Pony, the album that took the band platinum. The release sold through at source long ago; Del Mesa's Clearance shelf is one of the last places to find it. More aged agave lives in añejo tequila and tequila; more from the brand at Abre Ojos.
Tasting Notes
Brand-described notes of caramel, vanilla, hazelnut, and chocolate, with what the release copy calls a buttery taste ending in a smoky, mature flavor — "meant to sip and enjoy." Retailers note a harmonious balance of caramel and oak. Two years in whiskey barrels gives it a darker, more brooding profile than a typical añejo — fitting, really.
How to Enjoy
Neat, in a rocks glass, at full volume — preferably with White Pony on the turntable. This is a collector's bottle first and a sipping añejo second; once the 2,800 bottles are gone, they're gone.
