Clase Azul Blanco Ahumado Tequila
Clase Azul Blanco Ahumado Tequila is the sixth tequila from Clase Azul México — a 90-proof (45% ABV), 750mL unaged blanco with a smoky soul, launched June 2025 as a limited inaugural release presented in an exclusive debut case. Blue Weber agave is slow-roasted in underground earthen pits over firewood and volcanic rocks, then shredded, fermented with Clase Azul's proprietary yeast developed from wild varieties, and double-distilled in copper stills. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.
"Looking to achieve a smoky profile for this Tequila, I set out to capture the essence of traditional mezcal-making, reinterpreting each stage of the process to elevate the unique character of the Blue agave, but this time through a deliberate act," says Master Distiller Viridiana Tinoco. Every Clase Azul icon arrives in a decanter that tells its story: semi-opaque glass alludes to the smoke of cooking, the dark ceramic base is textured like volcanic rock, and the copper cap and emblem echo the stills that distilled it. Founded by Arturo Lomelí and now found in over 90 countries, Clase Azul is Mexico's luxury tequila house, rooted in Los Altos de Jalisco.
Official tasting notes: aromas of smoked agave, fresh plum, and red apple; on the palate, fresh lemon with a mineral front giving way to a silky finish with smoky undertones.
Why buy Blanco Ahumado? Because it gives the mezcal-curious a refined, elegant smoke inside a true Jalisco blanco — and as an inaugural limited release, it won't be around long. Browse the Clase Azul brand collection, more tequila, and the full spirits collection.
Serving note: best neat or over a single large ice cube; retailers also recommend it in a Smoked Paloma or a Mezcal Negroni riff.
What does "Ahumado" mean? "Smoked" — it refers to the pit-roasted agave, not to mezcal blending.
Is Blanco Ahumado a mezcal? No. It is 100% Blue Weber agave tequila from Los Altos de Jalisco; the smoke comes from traditional mezcal-style pit-roasting of the agave.
How is it made? Earthen-pit roasting with firewood and volcanic rocks, proprietary wild yeast fermentation, and double distillation in copper stills.
What does the decanter represent? The smoky semi-opaque glass is the cooking smoke, the dark textured ceramic base is volcanic rock, and the copper cap and emblem are the copper stills.
