Chaquira Beaded Jaguar Anejo is a 750mL anejo bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof), made from 100% Blue Weber agave and aged at least 12 months in oak at NOM 1438, Destiladora del Valle de Tequila, in Tequila, Jalisco — the house Matchmaker lists for the brand, double distilled in a stainless steel pot still. Its jaguar-head bottle is hand-covered in chaquira beadwork in the Wixarika (Huichol) tradition, in warm red, orange and yellow in retailer accounts, each bottle unique. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

A Year in Oak for the Red Jaguar

The Chaquira anejo pairs the NOM 1438 house make — Blue Weber agave from Jalisco, brick-oven and autoclave cooking, roller-mill extraction, deep well water, stainless-steel fermentation and double distillation — with a minimum year in American white oak per Matchmaker's table and the brand's distributor sheet. Around the glass, the bottle carries the Wixarika beadwork that gives the brand its name: thousands of chaquira beads set by hand in wax and resin over the jaguar head, in the warm end of the spectrum for the anejo. Beads are glued, not welded — handle the bottle like the artwork it is. The rest of the set is on the Chaquira vendor page and in our tequila collection.

Tasting Notes

Per Agave Matchmaker's community profile and a detailed reviewer there: nearly overripe dark fruit and caramelised agave with nutmeg, cloves, caramel and vanilla on the nose, a contrasting thyme note underneath; caramel, toffee and vanilla with barrel oak on the palate, an oily, honey-like mouthfeel, a spicy kick and a slight, pleasant pepper burn — a proper after-dinner sipper.

How to Enjoy

Neat after dinner is the anejo's home turf; the bottle stays on the table as the centrepiece it was beaded to be. More anejos are in our tequila collection and across our spirits collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is Chaquira Anejo aged?
At least 12 months, per the brand's distributor sheet — the anejo class runs from one year to under three years in oak. No producer source publishes an exact duration for this bottling beyond that minimum.

Is every Chaquira bottle the same?
No — the jaguar-head beadwork is applied by hand in the Wixarika tradition, so each bottle's colour pattern is one of a kind. Retailer accounts describe the anejo's beading in warm reds, oranges and yellows.

Where is Chaquira Anejo made?
Agave Matchmaker lists it at NOM 1438, Destiladora del Valle de Tequila (Casa Maestri), Tequila, Jalisco — 100% Blue Weber agave, double distilled, aged in American white oak.
