Bruichladdich Octomore Edition 17.2 Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bruichladdich Octomore Edition 17.2 is the experimental middle child of the 2026 Octomore 17 series. This 700mL bottle of Islay single malt whisky is 59.5% ABV (119 proof), distilled from Scottish mainland Concerto barley peated to 81.0 PPM (malt-stage phenol level) and matured 5 years entirely on Islay.
The story here is the casks: four years in second-fill French oak that previously held Californian red wine, then bourbon, finished in first-fill Port barriques — a specific combination of casks never before used for Octomore. Master Blender Adam Hannett built 17.2 to show what heavy peat does with Port and wine-wood influence: pepper, citrus, and berries over the dry earthy smoke. Non-chill filtered, no added color.
Tasting notes
Pepper and citrus up front, berry fruit from the Port barriques through the middle, and that signature dry, earthy Octomore smoke underneath — a flavor profile unlike any previous Octomore.
Why buy it from Del Mesa Liquor
- A first-ever cask combination for Octomore: red-wine French oak plus Port barriques
- 59.5% ABV, non-chill filtered, natural color
- 81.0 PPM — seriously peated, beautifully balanced
- Essential for Islay and peated-whisky collectors
How to serve it
Neat first — the Port influence shows best undiluted. A splash of water opens the citrus and berry notes.
