Bruichladdich Octomore Edition 15.2 Scotch Whisky is the 15th Octomore series turned up to eleven on cask influence: the same super-heavily-peated spirit (108.2 ppm) as 15.1, but matured in second-fill wine and second-fill bourbon casks before being recasked into first-fill Cognac casks for its final maturation. Distilled in 2018 from the 2017 Concerto barley harvest and aged 5 years, it is bottled at 57.9% ABV in a 700mL bottle. The Cognac finish rounds the peat into citrus, vanilla custard and black pepper — a layered, elegant take on the world's most heavily peated whisky. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

The Cask-Experiment Edition

Octomore has always been Bruichladdich's laboratory, and 15.2 is the cask-experiment vintage: identical barley and peat to 15.1, with the wood doing all the talking. The Cognac-cask finish — the liquid was recasked into first-fill Cognac oak in 2023 — gives this 5-year-old a viscous, almost dessert-like richness that sits beautifully against Octomore's dry, earthy peat smoke. Tasting Notes

Sweet citrus — lime zest and lemon meringue — opens on the nose, wrapped in earthy peat smoke and toasted oak. The palate is viscous and rich: vanilla custard, caramel, toffee, charred oak and cinnamon with a crack of black pepper. A maritime finish lingers, salt spray fading into peat embers.

How to Enjoy

Neat in a Glencairn is the move; a splash of water opens the citrus and brings a subtle marine note. It also holds up in a peat-forward Penicillin if you want the Cognac finish to play against ginger and honey.
