Bruichladdich Octomore Edition 13.2 Scotch Whisky
Bruichladdich Octomore Edition 13.2 Scotch Whisky is the Oloroso-cask chapter of the 13th Octomore series — a super-heavily peated Islay single malt at 137.3 phenol parts per million, aged five years in first-fill Oloroso sherry butts and bottled at 58.3% ABV (116.6 proof) in 750mL. Distilled in 2016 from the 2015 harvest of 100% Scottish-grown Concerto barley, it matured entirely in sherry butts sourced from Fernando de Castilla in Jerez — the full-term Oloroso maturation that defines the .2 editions. It's available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

The Oloroso Edition of the 13 Series
Octomore is Bruichladdich's peated laboratory — each annual series splits into .1 (bourbon cask), .2 (European wine cask), .3 (Islay barley) and .4 (the virtuoso) — and 13.2 is the sherry statement. Head distiller Adam Hannett has said the first-fill Oloroso butts and the slow, cold maturation in the Port Charlotte dunnage warehouses "really accentuated the salty tang of the spirit," layering nutty, citrusy sherry depth over the smoke rather than softening it. Tasting Notes
Per Bruichladdich's official notes: "The Antique Oloroso casks take this Octomore expression in a completely new direction." Aroma — nutty, salty smoke with milk chocolate and leathery tobacco, then rich syrupy orange and grapefruit citrus, clove, cinnamon, walnut, praline, brown sugar, raisins, dried apple, melon and ripe pear, peat smoke interwoven throughout. Palate — wonderful viscosity: smoked nuts and leather, warm orange marmalade on fresh scones, dried apricot, peppery spice toward the finish. Finish — earthy peat smoke with the fruit and nutty aromatics of the Oloroso casks and a salty sea-breeze tang.
How to Enjoy
Neat in a tulip glass, in small pours — at 116.6 proof this is a slow dram. A few drops of water will open the Oloroso fruit without taming the smoke.
