Bladnoch 19 Year Old Scotch Whisky
Bladnoch 19 Year Old Scotch Whisky is a 46.7% ABV (93.4 proof), 700mL Lowland single malt — Bladnoch's first Pedro Ximenez sherry cask expression, matured exclusively in first-fill PX casks at Scotland's most southerly distillery. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.
Bladnoch — the "Queen of the Lowlands," founded in 1817 beside the River Bladnoch near Wigtown — spent two centuries as a light, floral Lowland malt. The 19 Year Old bends that house style toward the dark and indulgent: nineteen years in first-fill Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, the sweetest wood in the sherry family, under Master Distiller Dr Nick Savage.
Tasting profile: dark liquorice sticks, aged oak and a delicate floral backdrop on the nose; dark liquorice, dried apricots, almonds and warming nutmeg on the palate; a long finish with an elegant dry sweetness. Serving note: neat or with a splash of water — the PX richness rewards a slow, warming pour.
