Three Finishes, One Bourbon

Armida took Barrell Craft Spirits more than a year of experimentation: three straight bourbons, each finished in a different cask — pear brandy for orchard fruit, Jamaican rum for tropical sweetness, Sicilian amaro for spice and dry citrus — then blended in Louisville and bottled at cask strength. Founder Joe Beatrice named it for his mother, Armida, after orchard-fruit memories of her family's farm. The brand's awards list for Armida runs to a San Francisco World Spirits Competition Gold, a Platinum and Best Unique Barrel-Finished Bourbon at the L.A. Spirits Awards, and 95 points from Wine Enthusiast. Browse our bourbon whiskey shelf, or see the blender's other batches on the Barrell Craft Spirits vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Ripe, floral pear. Palate: Honeyed and cereal-grain forward, with dried fruit like an old cognac, cola and herbal edges, and the amaro casks' dry, arid citrus against the rum finish's tropical sweetness. Finish: Bittersweet molasses into a dry, mineral close.

How to Enjoy

Neat first — the three finishes need air to separate — then with a few drops of water to open the pear and the amaro spice.
