Ardbeg Trudernish 15 Year Old is a milestone for Islay's smokiest distillery: Ardbeg's first permanent 15-year-old, joining the core range. Aged 15 years in a combination of bourbon casks, new charred oak, and Oloroso sherry casks, it's bottled at 48.8% ABV (Ardbeg's official specification) in a 750mL bottle.

The name comes from the ancient settlement of Trudernish on Islay's "Enchanted Cape." Local legend says the pure water of the notoriously hard-to-find Trudernish well never freezes — fitting for a whisky shaped by Islay's wild water and peat. Matured under Dr. Bill Lumsden's direction, Trudernish balances Ardbeg's signature smoke with 15 years of oak depth: the new charred oak adds silk and spice, the Oloroso brings dried fruit and nuttiness.

Tasting notes

Ardbeg peat smoke leads — bonfire, sea spray, and tarry rope — then 15 years of oak unfold: dark chocolate, espresso, clove, and sherry-soaked raisin. The texture is notably silky for Ardbeg, with a long, smoky-sweet finish.

Why buy it from Del Mesa Liquor

  • Ardbeg's first permanent 15-year-old — a new core-range landmark, not a limited edition
  • Triple-cask maturation: bourbon, new charred oak, Oloroso sherry
  • 48.8% ABV — full-flavored but approachable
  • Essential for Islay and peated-whisky collectors

How to serve it

Neat in a Glencairn — give it time; the sherry and oak notes emerge after the smoke settles. A teaspoon of water softens it into something almost creamy.
