Apaluz Mezcal Joven is a 40% ABV (80-proof), 750mL artisanal mezcal from the Panuco family of Durango, Mexico — three generations making mezcal the slow way from maguey cenizo, the Durangensis agave native to Durango's high plateau. Twelve-year-old agaves are roasted for three days over huizache, pine and oak in a volcanic-stone oven, crushed by hand with axes, fermented with well water and proprietary yeast in oak vats, and distilled in copper pot stills. Bottled unaged as a joven. Order online from Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Three Generations in Durango

The Panuco family has been making mezcal in Durango's rugged hills for three generations, and Apaluz is their flag-bearer — a 100% Mexican-owned label built on one agave, maguey cenizo, and one method: slow. A US single-barrel program has sourced Apaluz-distilled mezcal from the same family operation, a quiet vote of confidence in what's in the bottle. For drinkers working through tequila into mezcal, this 750mL is the right-sized first step into Durango's wilder, earthier agave country.

Tasting Notes

Gentle smoke and bright citrus up front, then honeyed almond, vanilla and tamarind — an earthy, mineral-driven profile that finishes clean and dry rather than sweet.

How to Enjoy

Neat, or with a single cube if you like the smoke softened. A natural mezcal for a Paloma riff or any cocktail where you want the agave to lead.
