Amatiteña Tequila Blanco Origen is a 98-proof (49% ABV), 750mL high-proof blanco from NOM 1477 in Amatitán, Jalisco — the same juice as Amatiteña's core blanco, bottled at a notably higher, more traditional strength instead of the standard 42%. Made by Maestro Tequilero Alberto Partida from single-estate blue Weber agave (current batches from the El Novillero and Las Rosas fields), it is cooked in a mesquite-wood-fired stone oven, crushed with a traditional tahona stone wheel, fermented with the fibers in open-air wooden tinas, and double-distilled in 19th-century wood-fired copper pot stills. Verified additive-free by Tequila Matchmaker. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Tequila the Way It Was Made

"Origen" — origin — is the point: this is Amatiteña's blanco at the strength and in the style of tequila's early production, before high-proof bottlings became a rarity. Every traditional marker is present: agave cooked over mesquite rather than steam, crushed under a stone tahona, fermented with its own fibers in open wooden tanks on ambient yeast and spring water. Nothing is added and nothing is hurried. At 98 proof the agave character arrives in high definition — earth, citrus, and white pepper with a texture the standard 42% can't match. For blanco purists, Origen is the bottle that shows what the distillery is truly capable of.

Tasting Notes

Vibrant and powerful: roasted agave, lime zest, and white pepper over wet stone and wild herbs. The palate is full and oily — sweet agave up front, jalapeño and citrus mid-palate — with a long, warm, spicy finish. Add a few drops of water to open the floral notes.

How to Enjoy

Neat in a small pour to experience the full 98 proof, or with water to taste it at blanco strength. Makes a margarita with genuine backbone. Pair with aguachile, tacos al pastor, or Oaxacan cheese.
