Northern Ireland's First Gin
Founded in 2012 by husband and wife David and Fiona Boyd-Armstrong on their family estate outside Downpatrick, Rademon Estate Distillery set out to make a gin that tasted like the land around it — "floral meadows, wild berries and grassy notes," as the distillers describe it. A classical botanical bill of juniper, coriander, orange and lemon peel, and cassia is layered with ingredients foraged from the estate's own gardens and meadows: wild clover, elderflower, elderberries, and homegrown green apples. The spirit is distilled in small batches of just 200–300 bottles in a custom 450-litre copper pot still fitted with two enrichment columns, then cut to bottling strength with pure water drawn from the estate's historic well.
Tasting Notes
The nose is juniper-forward with orange peel, light mint, perfumed coriander, and darker elderberry notes. On the palate the mouthfeel is notably oily and rich, opening with sweet vanilla and subtle pepper before juniper, orange, and elderberry develop mid-palate. The finish is long, warm, and peppery with orange lingering at the end. It has the velvety, smooth texture the distillery is known for, with the estate fruit and flowers giving it an unmistakable floral-fruity signature.
