The Permanent 18, Built Around Cream Sherry
Launched in September 2024, Redbreast 18 Year Old is a permanent addition to the family — the first new core age statement in years, created to stand on its own between the 15 and 21 Year Old rather than simply bridge them. The Redbreast signature has always been ex-bourbon barrels married with Oloroso sherry casks, and the 18 keeps that DNA, then adds two things: cream sherry casks — a first for Redbreast, sourced from the Antonio Páez Lobato cooperage in Jerez, Spain — and a very small inclusion of ruby Port-aged whiskey, linking it up the range to the 27 Year Old. The result, in the blenders' design, is familiar Redbreast depth with a richer, dessert-wine roundness of its own. Tasting Notes
The official launch notes: delectable berry fruit aromas of ripe blackcurrants and raspberries with sugar-glazed cherries and dried fig on the nose, with indulgent hazelnut chocolate, caramelised stone fruits, toasted almonds and cinnamon over polished oak and worn leather. The palate is full-bodied and rounded — oak tannins against sun-kissed grapes and autumnal fruits, with freshly peeled ginger, a hint of liquorice, dried fruits, dark berries and orange peel — and the finish is rich and lasting, pot still spices, fruit and oak fading in harmony.
How to Enjoy
Pour it neat in a tulip glass and give the sherry and Port casks time to open; a few drops of water lift the blackcurrant, fig and hazelnut chocolate. This is the contemplative end of the Redbreast range, built for slow evenings.
