Mitchell & Son marked its maturing casks with daubs of coloured paint to show their age potential — Blue for 7 years, Green for 10, Yellow for 12, Red for 15 — and the Spot names stuck for a century of Dublin whiskey. Blue Spot, the cask-strength 7-year-old, was last available in 1964 and stayed gone until November 2020, when Irish Distillers and Mitchell & Son brought it back with a Madeira-cask voice in the vatting: casks made in northern Portugal, seasoned on Madeira, shipped to Midleton and filled with pot still spirit.
