Toasted Coconut from Upcountry Maui
Kula starts with the distillery's own cane-juice rum — fresh-pressed Hawaiian sugarcane, fermented and column-distilled, then proofed with pure mineral water pulled from 3,000 feet beneath the Pacific. For this expression, real coconut is toasted before infusion, giving caramelized, slightly bitter depth rather than candied sweetness: toasted coconut flake, vanilla and burnt sugar on the nose, sweet macaroon and coconut cream with brown sugar on the palate, and brown sugar with lime zest on the finish. See the rum collection at Del Mesa Liquor and the other expressions from Kula.
Tasting Notes
Golden caramel color. Nose of toasted coconut flake, vanilla and dark brown sugar. The palate brings sweet macaroon, coconut cream and brown sugar, finishing with brown sugar and a lift of lime zest — caramelized and toasty rather than candy-sweet.
How to Enjoy
This is a mixer first: it was made for Piña Coladas, Painkillers and frozen tropical drinks. It also works over ice or soda, or floated on a Mai Tai for a coconut-kissed top layer.
