"Pagos" is the Jerez term for vineyard parcels — terroir — and this is the first Hampden bottling ever matured entirely in ex-sherry casks, from a partnership with Jerez bodegas. The 2024 edition blends HLCF-mark spirit (Hampden Light Continental Flavoured, 374.1 g/hlAA esters) distilled in 2021 and 2022, put into 500-liter ex-Oloroso casks from Bodegas Fundador in July and August 2022 — roughly two years of tropical aging, which ages far faster than continental cellars. Hampden Estate in Trelawny Parish, founded 1753, still runs 100% double-retort copper pot stills with extended natural-yeast fermentation and adds no sugar — ever.
Official tasting notes (Velier technical sheet): nose of ylang-ylang, clove, artichoke stock, toasted walnut, blood orange, apricot stone, and brandied cherry, with almonds, sultanas, dates, and coffee liqueur with time; a lively, powerful palate of cane sugar, chestnut honey, tropical flowers, vanilla, and cocoa beans; a long finish of coconut milk, honeysuckle, light tobacco, lime blossom, pepper, and coriander.
