Frigate Reserve 8 Year Old Rum is the youngest of Frigate's Panamanian lineup, bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in 750mL after 8 years in oak casks. Like the whole series, it's built from the brand's 21-year-old master blend — developed with Don Pancho Fernández — and scaled back to an 8-year expression, so even the youngest bottle drinks with mature, rounded character. Order it online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

  • ABV: 40% (80 proof) — 750mL; clean, drier style for whiskey drinkers
  • Age: 8 years in oak; drawn from a 21-year master blend
  • Origin: Panama — Don Pancho Fernández (PILSA Rums) collaboration
  • Style: the entry point of the 8/12/15/21-year series
  • Presentation: long-neck bottle with the "Life on the Wing" medallion

The Entry Point of the Frigate Fleet

Frigate built its lineup backwards: the 21-year master blend came first, then the brand blended down from it to create the 8, 12, and 15-year-olds. The result is that the 8-year-old — usually the rough-and-ready bottle in any rum family — pours with unusual composure: vanilla and caramel up front, toasted oak and warm baking spice behind, and none of the young-heat bite cheaper 8-year-olds show. See more from Frigate Reserve or browse the rum shelf.

Tasting Notes

Deep amber in the glass; aromas of caramel, vanilla, and oak with a hint of dried fruit; a smooth, complex palate of caramel, vanilla, oak, dried fruit, and subtle spice; a long, elegant finish with a touch of sweetness.

How to Enjoy

Neat or over ice to let the oak and vanilla speak — it's built for sipping, not shooting. Also works as the base of a spirit-forward Rum Old Fashioned.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Frigate Reserve 8 different from other 8-year rums?
It's blended down from a 21-year-old master stock, so it drinks with more maturity and roundness than a typical 8-year-old.

Is Frigate Reserve 8 a sweet rum?
No — it's on the drier, spirit-forward side, made for drinkers coming from bourbon, whiskey, or scotch.

Where is Frigate Reserve rum made?
Panama, in collaboration with Don Pancho Fernández of PILSA Rums.
