Bourbon Oak Meets the Bodegas of Andalusia
Taking inspiration from the atmospheric bodegas of Andalusia, the Powerscourt Distillery team set the dark fruit and sherried depth of Spain against the soft elegance of 21-year bourbon-matured Irish malt. Seventy percent of the marriage is malt that spent its life in ex-bourbon barrels; the remaining thirty percent — split between Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez finishes — was bourbon-matured first, then given around two further years in European oak sherry casks. Fercullen is the whiskey of Powerscourt Distillery, set on the Powerscourt Estate in Enniskerry, County Wicklow, beneath the Wicklow mountains. Tasting Notes
The distillery's notes: honeydew melon, lychee, vanilla fudge, pear drops and soft leather on the nose. The palate layers vanilla fudge and dried fruits with dark chocolate, orange oil and cracked hazelnuts, and the finish runs to sweet fudge, candied cherries, fruit cake and drying spices.
