Casey Jones Barrel Cut Double Barrel is the flagship premium expression of Casey Jones Distillery in Hopkinsville, Kentucky: a cask-strength "Kentucky specialty spirit" made from Kentucky corn and cane, double-barreled through charred new oak and spent bourbon barrels, aged up to 4 years, 750mL — and it is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Master Distiller Arlon "AJ" Casey Jones is the grandson of Prohibition-era legend Alfred "Casey" Jones, whose portable square "coffin" still AJ copied for the modern distillery, licensed in November 2014. The Barrel Cut line starts with Kentucky corn and cane — not a bourbon mash bill — aged in charred new oak (up to about three years, in Kelvin Cooperage barrels), then the best barrels continue aging in spent Casey Jones Kentucky Straight Bourbon barrels for an extra year. Bottled at cask strength, the proof varies by batch (official range 80–117). Double Barrel Cut earned a Platinum distinction at Fred Minnick's 2022 ASCOT Awards, where judges found "aromas of honey lead to caramel macchiato on the palate spiked with chocolate and raisin. Nice balance, great flavors!"

Tasting notes (official distillery): "Dessert in a bottle. A luscious dark fruit and cocoa nose reveal a sweet body with distinct dark cherry and a delicious chocolate finish." The distillery's 2022 announcement adds sweet corn, sweet tobacco, and just a hint of bourbon building "to a full bourbon body with an intriguing and subtle slight rye finish."

Why buy Double Barrel? Because it is a Platinum-winning, double-barreled, cask-strength Kentucky craft spirit with a genuine Prohibition-heritage story — and a corn-and-cane profile unlike any bourbon. Browse the Casey Jones brand collection, more whisky, and other craft spirits.

Serving note: at cask strength, start neat and add water drop by drop; the "dessert in a bottle" profile shines as an after-dinner pour.

Is it a bourbon? No — the distillery calls it a Kentucky specialty spirit; the corn-and-cane mash bill disqualifies it from straight bourbon.

What is the proof? Cask strength — each batch is bottled at its own ABV within the official 80–117 proof range.

What does "Double Barrel" mean? First aging in charred new oak (up to ~3 years), then further aging in spent Casey Jones Kentucky Straight Bourbon barrels, for up to 4 years total.

Any awards? Platinum distinction for both Single and Double Barrel Cut at the 2022 ASCOT Awards.
