Los Azulejos Skelly Reposado Tequila Mariachi is the oak-rested expression of the Skelly series — 40% ABV (80 proof), 750mL, 100% Blue Weber agave from NOM 1438 (Destiladora del Valle de Tequila, Casa Maestri) in Jalisco, aged six months in oak barrels and bottled in the hand-painted ceramic skeleton bottle. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Six Months of Oak on a Painted Skeleton

The Skelly series pairs Casa Maestri's traditional lowlands tequila — brick ovens, roller mill, copper pot stills — with a hand-painted calavera bottle in the Dia de los Muertos tradition, each one finished by Mexican artisans. The Reposado rests six months in oak, long enough to pick up honeyed oak and vanilla over the blanco's peppery agave without burying it. Founder Pedro Quintanilla named the brand for the azulejos — the hand-painted Talavera tiles and earthenware of Puebla — and the bottle is that craft in three dimensions. Find its blanco sibling on our tequila shelf, or the whole painted range on the Los Azulejos vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Cooked agave with oak and citrus, orange blossom and hazelnut in the aromatics. Palate: Honeyed oak and vanilla bean over herbal agave, with nutmeg warmth and a tart, bright opening. Finish: Long — toffee and vegetal agave notes carrying through the oak.

How to Enjoy

Neat or over a single large cube, where the oak and agave stay in balance; it also makes a reposado Margarita with genuine barrel character. As with the blanco, the emptied bottle earns its shelf space.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the Skelly Reposado aged? Six months in oak barrels — well past the two-month legal minimum for reposado, which is where its honeyed oak and vanilla come from.

Is this the same tequila as the Skelly Blanco? The same Casa Maestri (NOM 1438) production — brick ovens, roller mill, copper pot stills — with the difference made by the six-month oak rest and the bottle's design.

What is the bottle made of? Hand-made, hand-painted ceramic in the Talavera tradition; each Skelly bottle is finished individually, so colours and details vary slightly from bottle to bottle.
