A Calavera Bottle With Real Tequila Inside
Los Azulejos takes its name from the hand-painted Talavera earthenware tradition, and the Skelly series is its Dia de los Muertos tribute: a clay skeleton bottle painted by Mexican artisans, with the tequila sitting in the body and pouring from the neck. Founder Pedro Quintanilla built the brand on his grandfather's Jalisco hacienda agave, and the liquid is made the traditional lowlands way at Casa Maestri — brick ovens, a roller mill, and two runs through copper pot stills, with nothing added after distillation per the production tables. The Blanco wears the bandana; its aged siblings wear hats. Browse the range on our tequila shelf, or see every bottling on the Los Azulejos vendor page.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Cooked agave with pepper and anise. Palate: Zesty and peppery with a vegetal edge, balanced between sweet agave and savoury spice — licorice, anise and dill in the aromatics. Finish: Fresh and clean, with a light ashy-smoky tail.
How to Enjoy
Sip it neat to taste the lowlands agave character, or pour it where a blanco has to hold its own — a Margarita or Paloma built on pepper and cooked agave rather than citrus candy. The bottle, emptied, is the keepsake.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "Skelly" mean? It is the brand's name for its hand-painted ceramic skeleton bottle — a calavera figure in the Dia de los Muertos tradition. Each expression wears a different accessory; the Blanco's is the bandana.
Is the bottle ceramic or glass? Ceramic — hand-made and hand-painted clay in the Talavera style the brand is named for, which is why no two bottles are exactly alike.
Where is it made? At Destiladora del Valle de Tequila (Casa Maestri), NOM 1438, in the Tequila Valley of Jalisco, from 100% Blue Weber agave cooked in brick ovens and double distilled in copper pot stills.
