Named for the Tiles of the Haciendas
Los Azulejos takes its name from the hand-painted Talavera tiles — azulejos — that line the patios and kitchens of Mexican haciendas, and the brand was founded by Pedro Quintanilla, whose family grew agave in Jalisco and made tequila for its own table before bottling it for the world. The liquid comes from Casa Maestri's NOM 1438 distillery in Tequila, Jalisco, where the agave is slow-cooked in brick ovens, roller-milled and double distilled before its six-month bourbon-barrel rest. Pour it against its older sibling, Los Azulejos Anejo, find the house on the Los Azulejos vendor page, or browse the tequila shelf.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Cooked agave with vanilla and sweet oak; the Talavera profile adds orange blossom and roasted pepper. Palate: Chocolate, orange and sugar-cookie sweetness over tropical fruit. Finish: Naturally sweet and long, with caramel — dulce de leche — warmth.
How to Enjoy
Neat or over one large cube — six months in bourbon oak gives this reposado enough body to sip, and the chocolate-orange register makes it a natural after-dinner pour.
