Tsilili Tsipouro of Thessaly is a traditional Greek grape-pomace spirit — double-distilled, unaged, and bottled at 41% ABV in a 700mL bottle by the Tsililis winery-distillery in Raxa, Trikala, in the shadow of the Meteora rocks. It holds the EU-protected Geographical Indication "Tsipouro of Thessaly" and was the first tsipouro ever commercially bottled in the region. Distilled without anise in the pure style, it is clean, aromatic, and built for the meze table. Available to order online from Del Mesa Liquor in San Diego, CA.

  • Origin: Raxa, Trikala, Thessaly, Greece — Tsililis Winery-Distillery (TSILILIS K.S.A.), founded 1989; Tsipouro of Thessaly GI

The First Bottled Tsipouro of Thessaly

Tsipouro's origins trace to 14th-century Greek Orthodox monks on Mount Athos, but the modern story belongs to the Tsililis family: founded in 1989 in Raxa, they released the first bottled Tsipouro of Thessaly around 1990, coinciding with a change in Greek bottling law and EU recognition of the regional GI. The family later created Theopetra Estate (1996), an icon winery with organically grown vineyards near the prehistoric Cave of Theopetra, reviving rare Greek grape varieties. The white tsipouro itself is distilled from aromatic Thessalian grapes in small copper–steel pot stills, collecting only the heart cut to preserve the delicate aromatics — no anise, just grape spirit. Serve it the Greek way: neat or lightly chilled with meze, a carafe of water and ice on the side. Explore Tsilili or browse the liqueur and spirits collection.

Tasting Notes

Clean and aromatic: fresh grape spirit with floral, white-fruit aromatics from the heart-cut distillation. Crisp and warming at 41%, with a pure, unadorned finish — no oak, no anise.

How to Enjoy

Traditionally neat or lightly chilled with meze — the Greek table serve. It also works in Mediterranean cocktails where a clean grape spirit is wanted, in place of grappa or pisco.
