Torabhaig Allt Gleann Scotch Whisky
Torabhaig Allt Gleann is a 92-proof (46% ABV), 750mL heavily peated single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Skye — the second release in the distillery's Legacy Series (summer 2021). Torabhaig, at Teangue in Sleat, is only the second legal distillery on Skye and the island's first new one in some 190 years; distillation began in January 2017 in a converted 19th-century farm steading. Bottled at 46% with no chill filtration and no added color. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Skye's Second Distillery Speaks in Smoke
For nearly two centuries, Talisker was Skye's only legal distillery. Torabhaig — owned by Mossburn Distillers — changed that, and Allt Gleann (named for one of the distillery's natural spring water sources) announces the house style: unapologetically peaty, maritime, and young-vigorous. Concerto and Laureate barley, Pinnacle MG+ yeast fermentation, and a bourbon-led cask program frame bonfire smoke, brine, and sea salt over sweet toffee and vanilla. This is the standard 46% Legacy Series release — not the separate 61.1% Batch Strength bottling. Peat lovers exploring Scotch whisky should put Skye's newcomer on the list.
Tasting Notes
Bonfire smoke and brine, refined sugar and vanilla, barbecue bacon, maritime sea salt and seaweed; apples, pears, and citrus under sweet toffee, cinnamon, and caramelized fruit; a long, warming, robustly peaty finish with grilled yellow fruits.
How to Enjoy
Neat, with patience — let it open for a few minutes; a drop of water tames the smoke and lifts the fruit. Pair with smoked salmon, strong blue cheese, or dark chocolate. Contrast it with an unpeated Highland malt to taste what Skye peat does.
