A Gathering Storm from Skye
Released in 2013 as the first of Diageo's new wave of Talisker NAS expressions, Storm was built to slot between Talisker 10 and the Distiller's Edition — a bolder, more intense, smokier interpretation of the island style. Master blender Dr. Jim Beveridge sought out mature Talisker, enriched in rejuvenated casks, and married it with fresher spirit held in refill wood. Tasting Notes
Nose — powerful and fresh; sweet malt and ripe red berries shifting toward smoke and brine, with a bright peppery lift; brine, burning wood embers, vanilla, honey. Palate — mellow and rich, then bursts of spice; tongue-coating sweetness over a nutty, smoky backbone; cranberries and black currants, peat always present. Finish — dry, medium-length; light peaty burnt embers glowing softly (Diageo official notes; Whisky Advocate adds walnuts and fruity peat).
How to Enjoy
Neat, or with a few drops of water to tame the pepper — Storm rewards slow sipping by a fire. Pairs well with dark chocolate or a smoky meal.
